Henry Carlton Cumberbatch (born 8th December 1900, died 27 January 1966) had a career in the Royal Navy, serving on submarines.[1] He started a course at HMS DOLPHIN on 1 January 1923 and served from HMS CONQUEST on 13 April 1923 on completion of his training.[1]
He was born in Izmir and lived in Turkey as a young boy.[2][1]
Cumberbatch married Pauline Ellen Laing Congdon on 26 April 1934 St. Mary Abbot's, Kensington.[1]
Cumberbatch commanded HMS Osiris (S13) from October 1934 and HMS_Otway in 1937.[1][3]
He died in 1966 at Buckhurst Manor, Wadhurst, Sussex, formerly the home of his brother, Sir Hugh Carlton Cumberbatch.[1]
His father was Henry Alfred Cumberbatch CMG, British Consul General of Smyrna 1896-1908 [2][1][4] and his grandson is Benedict Cumberbatch.[5]
