Emily Xuechun Zhang (born January 16, 1998), better known as ExtraEmily, is an American Twitch streamer and YouTuber. She is a member of One True King. Her content primarily focuses on IRL streaming[3].

ExtraEmily has gained notoriety through her unconventional IRL streaming and peoples reactions to it[4][5], her one of a kind content lead to her becoming the most nominated streamer at The Streamer Awards and to winning the "League Of Their Own" award[6]. Additionally ExtraEmily is the 8th most watched female Twitch streamer[7] and the only streamer to have an animated emote of herself available on all of Twitch[8].

Early Life

edit

Zhang was born on January 16, 1998 to Chinese parents, and spent her childhood living in Omaha, Nebraska.

In 2016, Zhang was accepted into Financial Engineering at Columbia University joining the Tau Colony of the Asian-interest Kappa Phi Lambda sorority.

Zhang finished her studies in 2020[9].

Twitch Career

edit

ExtraEmily created her Twitch account on April 20, 2020.

On May 29, 2020, ExtraEmily had her first live stream.

On March 23, 2021, ExtraEmily was officially partnered to Twitch through their Twitch Partner Program.

On April 12, 2022, ExtraEmily placed 2nd in One True King's "Schooled", a show loosely based on Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?.

On April 26, 2022, ExtraEmily was invited to the season finale of "Schooled" as multiple competitors had called in sick. ExtraEmily placed 2nd again, but as the shows victor was exposed for cheating, she was eventually crowned the winner[10]. Following her victory she was awarded $50,000, and was invited to visit Mizkif along with all members of One True King in Austin, Texas[11].

On June 20, 2022, ExtraEmily announced that she had been fired from her banking job in New York City and was officially becoming a full-time Twitch streamer[1].

On January 31, 2023, ExtraEmily was announced as the newest member of One True King[12].

On March 11, 2023, ExtraEmily was nominated as "Best IRL Streamer" at The Streamer Awards.

On April 9, 2023, ExtraEmily did her take on the subathon trend, as she taped herself to a wall for a little over 10 hours straight while having viewers donate and subscribe to have her friends throw water balloons and various objects at her[13].

On May 14, 2023, ExtraEmily had the police called on her while recreating a Jackass stunt "Urban Kayaker" as she went kayaking in a skatepark[4][14][15].

On June 10, 2023, One True King launched independent video game and publishing company "Mad Mushroom" with ExtraEmily as part of being one of the co-owners for the company.[16]

On October 20, 2023, during TwitchCon, ExtraEmily won a popular vote to become the official emote of the event. This made ExtraEmily the first person ever to have an animated emote available across all of Twitch. The emote depicts a scene from one of ExtraEmily's earlier streams, in which she buried herself inside a trash bin using mulch until only her head was sticking out[17][18][8].

On January 4, 2024, ExtraEmily had a viral incident when cooking steak in an Outback Steakhouse parking lot as part of an "IRL challenge", in which a bystander assumed she was cooking Crack cocaine[5][19][20].

On January 16, 2024, ExtraEmily did another internet challenge, as she drank an entire gallon of water only using a fork over the course of 7 hours[21].

On February 5, 2024, ExtraEmily and One True King co-owner Emiru announced an IRL show together called "Always On (Connected By AT&T)", a show sponsored by AT&T, which will have the two content creators attend various events across the year, while test out and showcasing the capabilities of AT&T's cellular network[22][23].

On Feburary 17, 2024, ExtraEmily co-hosted the red carpet event at the yearly The Streamer Awards, with fellow streamers CDawgVA and Will Neff. At the event ExtraEmily was nominated for total of 6 awards (3 individual awards, 1 organizational award and 2 collaborative awards), the most of anyone at the event[24][6]
