The Society of Collegiate Black Men

The Society of Collegiate Black Men, is an organization founded on the campus of Howard University, in Washington, DC in 2005. Currently, this fraternal organization provides service to the campus of Howard University and to the District of Columbia, through its service initiatives such as 'The Collegiate Consortium,' which aims to mentor pre-college young men in the District of Columbia.

'The Society' or 'SCBM' as it has become know as states that its was "created to unite its membership and promote constructive relationships amongst Black Men on Howard University's Campus, as well as in the community abroad."

The Society of Collegiate Black Men was the brainchild of Dr. Barbara Williams, former Dean of the Howard University Office of Special Student Services and Rasheem Rooke, former Director of the Howard University Office of Student Services. These administrators, seeing the lack of male enrollment on Howard University's campus, wanted to reinvigorate the image and sense of purpose of the Howard University Man, through 'The Society.'

The organization stands on the principles or "Pillars" of Honest, Respect, Excellence and Pride. As well as adopting the colors white, maroon, gold and black as their fraternal colors.
