Huanggang Port Control Point and vehicular border crossing point between Lok Ma Chau, Hong Kong and Shenzhen, Guangdong

Huanggang Port(皇崗口岸)[1] is a port of entry on the border between mainland China and Hong Kong, in Huanggang of Shenzhen in mainland China. Its counterpart in Hong Kong is the Lok Ma Chau Control Point, located in Lok Ma Chau of Hong Kong's New Territories, across the Sham Chun River from Huanggang.

Huanggang Port Control Point is one of the five most important ports which connecting Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and near by the center of the city. On its west is the start of the Guangshen Expressway, which is the thoroughfare to connect Shenzhen and Hong Kong. At present, it is both the largest comprehensive road ports for passenger and cargo in China and one of the largest land ports. Every day, about 20 thousands vehicles will go through it[2] . At the same time, it is also a passenger transit port. Except Luohu Port, it is the busiest one in Shenzhen city and the third largest passenger port after the Gongbei port in Zhuhai in China.

It covers an area of 1.016 million square meters, including the surveillance zone of 0.653 million square meters, and the living quarters of 0.068 million square meters, and the business service area of 0.295 million meters. The surveillance zone has two parts, the east part and the west part. The east part is for cargo checking, the west part is for passengers checking. The east of the cargo checking area is the entry checking field, and the west is the exit checking field. What’s more, there are 52 bus checking channels, including 12 car checking channels and 40 truck checking channels, 20 for entry and 20 for exit (10 were built after the immigration control carried out the policy of fast access); there are 50 passenger checking channels, including 25 for entry and 25 for exit. The designed carrying capacity is 50 thousands vehicles per time (the stander vehicle), and 50 thousands passengers per time.

Connected with Lok Ma Chau in Hong Kong via a vehicular bridge across the Shenzhen River (Sham Chun River), Huanggang is one of four vehicle border crossings between mainland China and Hong Kong, and one of the five border crossings on the land border.

Transport edit

Besides road connection with Hong Kong, the Futian Port Station (福田口岸站) nearby connects with the KCR Lok Ma Chau Station via a footbridge, completed with immigration facilities on both sides.

Business Time edit

Huanggang Port is the only full-time port now in China. Both the passenger checking and the cargo checking work all day. The cargo checking begins at 7:00 a.m. and closes at 22:00 p.m., while 6 channels keep working from 22:00—24:00 pm (2 for entry and 4 for exit).[3]

There are many cross-border traffic routes in Huanggang Port, which lead to Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok, Wan Chai, Tsuen Wan, Kam Road, Disney World, and the International Airport in HongKong[4] . And the routes to Tsui, Mong Kok, Wan Chai, Tsuen Wan, Kam Road work all day. Besides, there are many buses going between Huanggang Port and Border Control Station in Lok Ma Chau of Hong Kong. After the Huanggang port began to 27/7 services, the number of passengers per day increases quickly from 50 thousands to 110 thousands per day, and even 172 thousand per day at most. Every day, almost bus frequency 1000-1100 times of cross-border vehicles pass through it, twice of the normal number and far more than the designed capacity of the number of passengers and vehicles. To solve this problem, authorities of Guangdong and Hong Kong, through meetings, agree to provide the service of combination of long-term and shot-term buses. 5 groups of 6 routes of short-term buses between Huangguang Port and Hong Kong. They will go between Wan Chai, Vau Tsim, Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan, Mong Kok, and Kam Tin in Hong Kong and Huangguang Port, with the Mong Kok, and Kam Tin together in one group. It is run by the 5 groups of companies made of 93 passenger transportation companies, and the operating time is 2 years. All the routes work for 24 hours[5] except that the Kam Tin route, which work about 18 hours. The bus frequency of every route is at least 60 times. When busy, every 15 minutes one time, 30 minutes one time when not busy or at midnight. Furthermore, buses of every route have the same color and the same ticket price in order to be governed easily.

To serve better for passengers, there are temporary stops for direct buses and ticket office[6] at the Huanggang Port. The temporary stops are at the south of the passenger checking building, and the east of the shuttle buses, and there are 6 parking spaces reserved for short-term buses, for passengers to get on the buses. The 6 ticket offices are temporarily on the south of the passenger checking building, and the east of the departure passageway.

Pedestrian Bridge edit

The Shenzhen subway at Hunaggang Port will be connected to the West Railway Station in Lok Ma Chau, Hong Kong by Huanggan-Lok Ma Chau Pedestrian Bridge. This is a double- deck bridge and a cable-stayed on the top, which is novel and unique all over the world. Its length is 211 meters, the depth of deeper side is 87 meters, and the width is 16.5 meters. The upper and the lower layers are both unidirectional; to make sure that the passengers will not meet. Also, there is an immigration control point at both sides of the bridge. Besides, there are passages for the blind on the bridge. On the east of the bridge is the united checking building and on its west is the united checking building of Lok Ma Chau, Hong Kong. Because of the subway and the united checking building, and the subway and the ground transportation together carrying the passengers entering and exiting, it will become a three-dimensional transportation thoroughfare between underground and ground. And squares, grassland and roads will be built around the stations and united checking building according to the region planning. After that, the number of passengers every day will be 190 thousand at most. And the passengers from Hong Kong and Macau will spend only 15 seconds entering[7] .
