Eve Donovan is a fictional character from Days of Our Lives, an American soap opera on the NBC network. Created by head writer Leah Laiman and introduced by executive producers Betty and Ken Corday, and Al Rabin, the role was originated by actress Charlotte Ross in July 1987. Ross remained in the rule until her exit in 1991. In 2014, the character was recast with Daytime Emmy Award nominated actress Kassie DePaiva; she made her first appearance on June 18, 2014. In 2015, DePaiva was let go from the soap, and last appeared on February 2, 2016. In 2016, it was announced that DePaiva would return full-time to the role of Eve, however, following said-announcement, it was announced that she would be taking time away, due to a diagnosis with acute myeloid leukemia. Following remission, it was announced that DePaiva would return once again to the role of Eve. She made her first re-appearance on October 27, 2017.

Introduced as a prostitute, Eve is the daughter of Shane Donovan (Charles Shaughnessy) and Gabrielle Pascal. She is also the half-sister of Andrew Donovan IV and Theresa Donovan (Jen Lilley). Upon her return in 2014, she made an immediate connection with Dr. Daniel Jonas (Shawn Christian) and reunited with her daughter Paige Larson (True O'Brien).

Casting edit

Actress Charlotte Ross joined Days of Our Lives in the contract role of Eve Donovan on July 16, 1987.[1] In June 1991, Ross announced her decision to depart the series.[2] She last appeared on July 12, 1991.

Following increased speculation,[3][4][5][6] it was announced on January 24, 2014, that actress Kassie DePaiva, best known for her role as Blair Cramer on One Life to Live and General Hospital, had joined the cast as Eve. At press time, DePaiva was poised to make her first appearance sometime in the summer of 2014, due to the serial's advanced production schedule.[7][8][9][10][11][12][13] Corday, in a statement, said, "We are excited to welcome Kassie to the ‘'DAYS’' family. [...] Stay tuned to find out how the return of Eve Donovan shakes things up in Salem!"[8][10][11][13] Ross posted on her official Twitter account in support of DePaiva, tweeting, "I had to pass on reprising my FAVE role,Eve Donovan,as I'm currently filming 3 projects(NASHVILLE-abc now)& I know Kassie will be wonderful!"[12][13] DePaiva first debuted in the role on June 18, 2014.[14]

On September 15, 2015, it was announced that DePaiva was let go from the soap.[15] DePaiva last appeared on February 2, 2016.

Backstory edit

1987–91 edit

Eve Baron arrives in Salem in 1987. Soon following her arrival, she quickly fell into prostitution, with the guidance and help of Nick Corelli (George Jenesky).

Eve, along with Frankie, left Salem for Africa with the intent to work with a charity organization.

2014–16 edit

Eve returns to Salem in June 2014, once again using the name Baron, where she reconnects with her daughter, Paige Larson (True O'Brien). She also requests the services of Dr. Daniel Jonas (Shawn Christian) in removing her lymph nodes. She assures Paige that she should keep her distance from Eve's sister, Theresa Donovan (Jen Lilley), and that no one but Shane knows that she is back in Salem. She then informs Jennifer that following the annulment of her marriage from Jack, she is entitled to half of any royalties from any of his media projects, and intended on collecting those royalties, despite Jennifer's disapproval. Eve begins to take interest in Paige's relationship with JJ Deveraux (Casey Moss), later disapproving of their union. As Eve continues to meddle in her daughter's relationship, she ends up sleeping with JJ, which she laters holds as blackmail and reason for JJ to end his relationship with Paige.

2017– edit

Eve returns to Salem in October 2007, and reveals to Brady and Victor that she married Deimos Kiriakis (Vincent Irizarry) around the time that Brady and Nicole ran away with Tate and Holly to Canada. She makes her intentions known as the new CEO of Basic Black and her move into the Kiriakis Mansion.

Reception edit

The team of Daytime Confidential listed Eve's 2014 return and demand of Jack's royalties at number eight on their "10 Worst Soap Opera Storylines of 2014". They cited, "We love it when soap operas bring back popular characters from the past to drive new story. We just need for said stories to be somewhat entertaining. No way do we buy late publishing wunderkind Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) ever signing over his future book royalties to short term wife of convenience Eve Donovan (Kassie DePaiva) on Days of Our Lives." The website did, however, praise Eve's connection with Jack and Jennifer's son, JJ.[16] On January 27, 2016, DePaiva earned a pre-nomination for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for the 43rd Daytime Emmy Awards.[17]

In December 2017, Tony S. of Soapcentral.com named DePaiva's return as Eve as his "Best Debut" for 2017, stating her return as "extremely soaptastic."
