Early life

edit

Carles & Sofia both showed exceptional musical talent at an early age. Their sensitivity, musical intuition, natural technique, depth and early maturity made them stand out from other students of their generation and attracted the attention of teachers and the music community. One of the distinctive traits of the duo is their passionate interest in discovering and deeply studying all different musical genres and styles, from the baroque to the romantic and modern music, from the lieder to the opera or symphonic compositions, from the most dramatic type of pieces to the most refined.[4] While profoundly interested in all musical styles and genres, Carles & Sofia have dedicated their lives to developing their own unique style in the many different piano schools and music traditions.

While pursuing traditional studies in the Conservatory of their home town, Girona, they complemented their curriculum with Master Classes and International Courses taught by renowned teachers. This spirit and quest for excellence drove them all over the world to be taught by professors like Alicia de Larrocha, Boris Berman, Claude Frank, Dominique Merlet, Edith Fischer, Emmanuel Ferrer, Günter Ludwig, Murray Perahia, Nina Svetlanova and Peter Eischer. After graduating from college in Barcelona Conservatory (Liceu), Carles & Sofia continued their musical training, first in the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris and then at Hartt School of Music (University of Hartford, USA). The two professors who had the greatest influence on the duo are the Russian pianist Nina Svetlanova and the Brazilian pianist Luiz de Moura Castro.
