Njivice

Njivice (deutsch Sniewitz, direkte Übersetzung Äckerchen) ist eine Ortschaft in Westkroatien auf der Insel Krk mit 1.170 Einwohnern. Sie gehört zur Gemeindeverwaltung Omišalj, die ca. sechs Kilometer nördlich von Njivice an der Küste liegt.

Lage und Umgebung

Der Ort Njivice liegt im Nordwesten der Insel Krk. Direkt an der Küste gelegen grenzt er im Westen an das Mittelmeer, zum Landesinneren hin schließt sich die Ortschaft an die umliegende Waldlandschaft an. In der Nähe findet man Überreste der römischen Siedlung Fulfinium sowie eine Basilika aus dem fünften Jahrhundert.

Geschichte und heutige Situation

Die erste urkundliche Erwähnung Njivices findet sich in einer Schenkungsurkunde des Fürsten Ivan Frankopan aus dem Jahre 1474. Damals noch ein kleiner Fischerort, ist die Gemeinde heute vor allem für ihren Tourismus bekannt. Bereits ab 1930 begann man mit dem Ausbau zu einem Fremdenverkehrsort mit dem Bau des Hotel Luka (heute Jadran). Zum Dorf selbst gehört seit den achtziger Jahren auch die Neubausiedlung Kijac.

Verkehr

Direkt an der Gemeinde vorbei führt die Staatsstraße 102 (D102), die vom Norden der Insel bis in den Süden verläuft und die größeren Orte Krks wie Omišalj, Sveti Vid, Krk (Stadt), Punat und Baška verbindet. Da Njivice im Norden der Insel liegt, ist die Brücke zum Festland und damit die Großstadt Rijeka nicht weit. Zu der Stadt gehört der internationale Flughafen Rijeka (RJK), der sich aber noch auf der Insel bei Omišalj befindet. Direkt in Rijeka befindet sich der Bahnhof. Außerdem hat man auf dem Festland Anschluss an die Staatsstraßen 8 und 501, über die man einen großen Teil des Landes erreichen kann.

Godine 1930. izgrađen je hotel "Luka" (današnji Jadran) i villa Dinka, što se smatra početkom turizma u Njivicama. Lijepe plaže, izuzetno plavo more, obilje hladovine i blaga klima, uz izvanredne smještajne kapacitete, osnovne su osobine koje privlače goste, a Njivice pretvara u sve poznatije turističko središte.

Njivice

Njivice is a village that is located in West Croatia on the island of Krk and has 1.170 inhabitants. It is part of the municipal administration of Omišalj that is located approximately six kilometres away northward along the coast.

Location and Environment

The village Njivice is located in the northwest of the island Krk. Right at the coast, the western part is gazing upon the Mediterranean Sea and the inland of Njivice embraces the surrounding forest landscape. In close proximity to the village the remains of the Roman settlement Fulfinium as well as a basilica from the fifth century can be found.

History and Today's situation

The first documentary mention of Njivice is found in a 1474 issued deed of donation which belonged to count Ivan Frankopan. Back at that time it was only a small fishing village, nowadays the community is mostly known for its tourism. Already in 1930, with the construction of Hotel Luka (today Hotel Jadran), the expansion to a tourist resort has begun. Since the eighties the new housing estate Kijac is also part of the village.

Traffic

Alongside the village runs the state road 102 (D102), which carries on from the north of the island to the south and therefore connects the bigger places of Krk like Omišalj, Sveti Vid, Krk (town), Punat and Baška. Because Njivice is located in the north of the island, the bridge that is connecting it with the mainland and therefore the city Rijeka, is not far away. The international airport Rijeka (RJK) belongs to the city although it is situated on the island near Omišalj. The train station is located in Rijeka. Moreover, the state roads 8 and 501 are reachable from the mainland through which the main part of the country is accessible.

Tourism

Beside the construction of the hotel Luka (today Jadran), the villa Dinka is also part of the beginnings of tourism in Njivice. Beautiful beaches, an extraordinary blue sea, a lot of shadowy places and a pleasant climate paired with a lot of opportunities to stay, are the main reasons that attract visitors. This results in Njivice getting more recognition each year.

Njivice has a Boules club named "Trstena".
