Live from the 2015 MediaWiki Developer Summit

Erik Möller at the 2015 MediaWiki Developer Summit

This week over a hundred MediaWiki and Wikimedia developers and volunteers gathered in San Francisco for the 2015 MediaWiki Developer Summit. The summit began with a presentation by Erik Möller, discussing the changing multi-device and mobile world. The Wikimedia Foundation's Vice President of Engineering, Damon Sicore, followed up with a presentation discussing his experience at Mozilla releasing Firefox for Android and Firefox OS, and a call to action that developers should respond to review requests within 24 hours.

The mobile team presented next, discussing how they've enabled new contributors to edit without the "edit" button, and some of the struggles they've had with the MediaWiki API.

A presentation is made for introducing OOjs for those unfamiliar, to standardize javascript libraries creating widgets, icons and styles among MediaWiki extensions.

Separate session are being held as well, including discussions about new forms of editing that are now available through labs and oAuth (like The Wikidata Game), the future of editing and what it may look like in the future for mobile and tablets without long-form editing being required.
