Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication
Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication (MCN) fills the gap in Australia for open access, multi-scale, multi-disciplinary nanofabrication infrastructure. MCN is a collaborative initiative between federal and state governments, CSIRO and Victorian universities, namely Monash University, Deakin University, La Trobe University, University of Melbourne, Swinburne University of Technology and RMIT University.
The goal of the MCN is to support and produce world class research and device prototypes in areas that include environmental sensors, medical diagnostics, micro and nano actuators, novel energy sources (e.g. solar cells) and novel bio-nanotechnology products like drug delivery devices.
The centre is based at a new, purpose-built facility, adjacent to the Australian Synchrotron. The facility comprises cleanrooms (class 100 and 10,000) and biochemical laboratories with a dedicated nano particle handling lab. These state-of-the-art facilities will allow researchers the opportunity to work with hard and soft materials and integrate fabrication with biology. The MCN is the Victorian Node of the Australian National Fabrication Facility Ltd. (ANFF).
