Undergraduates edit

All undergraduate gowns resemble knee-length versions of the BA gown, and the basic gown is black, reaching down to just below the knees with an open pointed sleeve and the forearm seam left open. Most colleges' gowns include minor variations on this pattern, such as sleeve decorations. The most distinct differences are the blue colour of the undergraduate gowns of Trinity and Caius and the blue facings of Selwyn. The full details are as follows:

Churchill, King's, Peterhouse, Queen's and Robison Colleges all use the basic undergraduate gown without variation. [1] The other college gowns have specific variations as follows:

College Gown variation
Trinity College The gown in dark blue with black cloth facings, and black edging two inches wide inside the wrist of the sleeves.[2]
St Johns' College The gown is black with no forearm slit, instead over the forearm seam there are four black velvet bars.[3]
Clare College The gown is black with no forearm slit, instead over the forearm seam there are three black velvet chevrons.[4]
Pembroke College The gown is black without the forearm slit, with the sleeve gathered up above the elbow and held by a cord and button.[5]
Gonville and Caius College The gown is blue cloth, with facings and a yoke of black velvet. The sleeves are open to the shoulder and the two sleeve edges, edged with black velvet.[6]
Trinity Hall The gown is black and with a shortened forearm slit. The lower end of the sleeve is left open, with a cord and two buttons keeping the two sides together.[7]
Corpus Christi College The gown is black and of the basic pattern but with facings of black velvet.[8]
St Catharine's College The gown is black and of the basic patter but the facings have been machined in vertical rows[9]
