Having excelled during his basic training, Bodin was invited to take the selection course, Promo Parachutiste, at Camp Rafalli in Corsica to join the 2e Régiment de Parachutistes (2e REP). After successfully completing the four week course he was issued with his basic parachutist badge.

4e Compagnie (4e CIE), 2e REP edit

As a result of Bodin's test of physical strength and resilience throughout all of his training he was posted to 4th Company (4e CIE). Here he went on to complete the demolitions and specialist warfare training at the Commando Training Centres: Centre d'entraînement commando d'Arta Plage (CECAP) in Arta, Djibouti; Centre d'entraînement commando Guyane in Régina, French Guiana; and Centre national d'entraînement commando (CNEC) in Mont-Louis, France.

During Basic Training Bodin acquired marksman scores in each of his weapons firing exercises gaining the 'excellent shooter' certificate. He was recognised as such and underwent the Tireur de Precision (sharpshooter) and Tireur d'Élite (Advanced) Sniper training. Bodin's superiors decided he would be put to better use if he was transferred from 4e CIE to the Reconnaissance & Support Company. It was initially thought he would join the Section de tireurs d'élite (STE) as a sniper but because of his Commando training he was instead moved to the Pathfinder section.
