Working on my Wikipedia project Content vs. Function words
Content and Function words are both already articles on Wikipedia. I will be making stub for them both. Neither of these terms are mentioned in our class article.
Content words are those with meaning. They can be classified into "verbs, nouns, adjectives, and adverbs." Examples of content words are jump, tree, pretty, and slowly. Function words are those that give additional information. Function words can be classified into five different categories: "articles, prepositions, quantifiers, pronouns, and auxiliary verbs." These are important concepts to learn, especially at the age of about twenty-four months. This age is when infants begin two word utterances, and eventually, multi-word utterances. Combining content and function words, in addition to word order, proves that the child is learning the foundations of syntax (Saxton, 2010).
