M.A. Sanjayan
M.A. Sanjayan was born in 1967 in Sri-Lanka and raised in Sierra Leone. Sanjayan is a prominent conservationist, serving since 2002 as the lead scientist of The Nature Conservancy. He holds a doctorate from UC Santa Cruz where he studied under the guidance of Dr. Michael Soule. He is currently a research faculty in the Wildlife Program of the University of Montana. His current work focuses on the link between poverty and conservation.
Sanjayan has published in top scientific journals such as Nature, Science and Conservation Biology. He edited a book, Connectivity Conservation, and his latest publication is an essay titled Poverty and Ecosystem Services in the 2010 book 'The Atlas of Global Conservation'. An excellent and very charismatic speaker, Sanjayan takes great effort to reach out to a wide audience. He was invited to the David Letterman show and spoke on the Today show. He was profiled in Time and Outside Magazine.
Sanjayan was recently named as one of top 50 alumni of UC Santa Cruz.
