1. Three related topics

A) Transantarctic Mountains[[1]]

B) This page has general information on the geography, biology, history, and geology of the Transantarctic Mountains.

C) The page could use more information concerning biology and geologic history as well as extra photographs.

D) The written communication of this page is especially good when describing the geography but then lacks sentence flow throughout.

E) There are two images on this page. One is a random mountain shot near Cape Roberts and the other is a detailed map. The map is very nice but there needs to be more specific pictures of the terrain such as landmarks and specific mountain peaks.

A) Geology of Antarctica[[2]]

B) The page covers general geologic history and paleontology, from 540 million years ago to present, of Antarctica as a whole but nothing specific about the Transantarctic Mountain range.

C) I would start by adding a clear introduction to the page then have the table of contents like many other Wiki pages.

D) The written communication of the page is excellent in the way that it is divided by time periods ending with the present. Like I said earlier the introduction needs work along with moving the table of contents.

E) The use of images showing plate position 514 million years ago and now is a great visual aid for understanding what the continent has gone through, but since the page is strictly geology there should be more images of certain rock formations.

A) West Antarctic Rift[[3]]

B) This Wiki page is a very basic explanation of the West Antarctic Rift including basic geology and formation events.

C) The page needs structure because currently there is just a few paragraphs with no individual sections and no table of contents.

D) The sentences flow decently and is more like a simple essay which is easy to read. The bad part about this paper's written communication is the lack of information and there are no separate categories or headings for the different studies of the rift.

E) There are no images at all on this page. It needs a sketch of how a rift is created and a picture of the rift.

2. Proposal

A) Title: "Tectonic Evolution of the Transantarctic Mountains". I am going to describe the entire known/hypothesized tectonic history of the mountain range as well as other influencing factors that formed the range. I will also talk about things that were influenced because of the tectonics such as climate and Living organisms.

B) Mainly for the large audience that is not looking for specific details about the history it will be extra knowledge that hopefully will develop interest in Antarctica and tectonics in general. For the reading geologists it will help to further explain the exact reason the mountains are there and how not all mountains are made the same way.

C)

  • Introduction
  • Table of Contents
  • Geographic setting (Gondwana-Present)
  • Early Tectonics
  • Late/present Tectonics
  • What is influenced by these events?
  • Summary
