My name is Lena Hall, and I am a Sophomore at Rice University. I am a Sociology major, with a minor in Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities. My interests focus mainly on economic disparities among racial groups and genders, especially in developing regions. In Fall of 2014, I completed an introductory course in Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities. As an assignment for that course, I rewrote the article American juvenile justice system. In the next few months, I would like to contribute more to articles in Wikipedia relating to social justice and poverty.
Current Work
editI am currently planning to update and expand the article Sex tourism as part of a class project. This start-class article has been rated "high importance" under WikiProject Travel and Tourism, and I think it needs significant updates and expansion. I would like to first expand the article to include discussions on motivations for sex tourism, focusing on differing policies surrounding prostitution and social norms in sending and receiving countries. I would also include more information on how sex tourism operates, and the kind of revenue it generates in destination countries. Additionally, I plan to add sections to discuss social stigmas surrounding sexuality and prostitution, and how this motivates or influences sex tourism. I also would like to include a more thorough discussion of this issue's connection to human rights and capabilities. Finally, I plan to outline the effects of sex tourism on national economies and the resulting influence on policies. I will eliminate some of the less-developed sections of the existing article and incorporate the information elsewhere. Hopefully these changes will make this article more thorough, informative, and well-organized. Please visit the talk page of the Sex tourism article to see more details of my planned contribution, and comment with any recommendations or possible other changes you think I should make. I would appreciate feedback on how best to proceed with this article.
