My Music

The kind of music that I play is mostly a country feel. I like doing covers of popular artists like Carrie underwood, Miranda Lambert, and many more. Most of the time the rhythms and melodies are not too difficult and that is why country music is sometimes criticized for not being complex enough. To me music is not about complexity but rather getting a message across. This is why I love country music because it is a way to tell a story in any manner you want. Country songs can be any tempo you want and are usually a story about a learning experience. There has always been a song for every situation that I have been through and it is great to be able to have that kind of support. Usually the vocal style for country is soft and slow, and meant to be either giving advice, telling of lost love or many other things. There is also a twang on the words of the songs that vocalists have to perfect if they are not used to singing country music. I have been discouraged not to do country music because it is not as ‘difficult’ as some might think but to me it is not any less credible to be a country singer. This is why I will stay ‘Country Strong’ which means that I will not let anyone discourage me in my dreams just because they think I am not good enough. If half of the people who were famous today had let their discouragers talk them out of their dreams, they would not have had all of their great experiences. I cannot wait to see where the music industry will go and where it will take me next.

My Musical Background/ Outlook

My mother has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard and when I was growing up she would sing to my brother and I. In the car, at the store, around the house and basically anywhere she was carrying a melody with her that poured into my heart and made me want to be just like her. She taught me to sing as I grew up and we harmonized together but at the age of ten I realized something was missing in my musical world. I could not figure it out until she started to teach my brother to play the guitar. I sat and listened to the lessons a few times and my heart fluttered even more for music and I knew my other half was the guitar. After my mom taught me four basic chords I taught myself the rest. After two years of learning the guitar, playing cover songs, and experiencing Junior High I started to get inspirational ideas but did not know what to do with them. I decided to write them down, give them a melody, and made them into songs. My first few songs were not the best obviously but I still have the crumpled pages where my writing began. I wrote all throughout high school and then I went to the University of North Texas in Denton for a year and a half. Though this is an amazing school and I had so many great experiences there, it could not satisfy what I would need for my future musical career. I auditioned for Berklee and was happy to find out that I made it into my dream school. My outlook on music is probably different than most. I love this quote from an awesome artist named Jeremy Camp he says, “I'm not sure what the Lord has in store for my future, but I can say for certain that music is not my life. Christ is my life. I love writing, singing, and playing songs that He gives me to share, but whatever He has for me in five or ten years, I want to be willing to step into it. I never want to hold so tightly to my vocation that I lose out on His higher plan.” (Goodreads.com) When I saw Jeremy in concert and he said this I was speechless and it immediately changed my life and became my motto in my musical voyage.
