SpreadsheetWEB (SSW) is a tool developed by Pagos, Inc., that is used to create web applications from Microsoft Excel documents. SSW is capable of converting and publishing over 333 built-in Excel formulas and incorporates support for charts, maps and images. It is designed to convert spreadsheet-based processes into database-driven, web-based applications. In most cases, applications created by SpreadsheetWEB don't look like conventional spreadsheets. Rather, they are designed to look like more traditional web applications. The product has two main components: the SSW Wizard and the SSW Control Panel.

SSW Wizard

edit

The Wizard is a Microsoft Excel add-in, accessed from a ribbon after installation. It is compatible with Microsoft Office 2003 and above. It is responsible for the conversion of the Excel file prior to server upload. The Wizard features a series of steps, from choosing a display range to setting input cells to creating save cells. Formatting options from Excel are also conserved, including validation settings, color schemes, fonts, multiple tabs/worksheets, form controls and images. There are also options for AJAX automated calculations as well as support for scripting and creating PDF reports.

SSW Control Panel

edit

Once an Excel file is converted with the SSW Wizard, it is uploaded either to a Pagos-hosted dedicated server or a self-hosted server running the SSW server software. Both of these are controlled through an application manager called the SSW Control Panel. Along with hosting the files, it also allows for the creation of user groups, management of account settings and generation of codes for website integration. The Control Panel is split into seven tabs accessible by the system administrator:

  • Applications, which allows for application management and settings
  • Processes, which allows you to run batch processes, including data record import
  • Data, where data that is collected by applications or imported can be viewed, edited and analyzed
  • Users & Groups, where administrators can set privileges for specific users or whole groups
  • Specials, where code can be generated for the implementation of SSW applications into websites or blogs
  • My Account, where account settings are managed
  • Administration, where custom role definitions are set, as well as LDAP settings and server status

Dashboard Reporting

edit

Dashboard reporting has been implemented in the most recent versions of SSW. Dashboards are an analytic tool used to create data visualizations in order to discover trends or patterns in large data sets. SSW supports two types of dashboard reports: cubes (where the data set is entirely imported and the report is not linked to a data collection application) and dashboard reports (where data sets can be imported but are linked directly to a SSW data collection application). These reports are real-time data visualizers controlled by certain filters, parameters and dimensions, all of which are set in the SSW's dashboard creation environment. They are made up of charts, graphs, maps, images and pivot tables. All facets of these environments can be customized, including the background color, position and size of dashboard elements, titles, chart legends, static text fields, grids and worksheets. Multiple worksheet dashboards are also supported.

System Requirements

edit

SpreadsheetWEB requires Windows Vista or Windows XP, Excel 2000 or higher and the .NET Framework 3.5 (free). SpreadsheetWEB can also be used with Microsoft Excel 2007.

Licensing

edit

SpreadsheetWEB is available to organizations and individuals as Software as a Service. Available editions include individual, team, professional and enterprise.

A server license is also available for companies to install SpreadsheetWEB on their own servers, allowing unlimited usage.
