INTRODUCTION: edit

Kedareshwar is a historical mahadev temple. The temple is situated in Sailana village of Ratlam district, Madhya Pradesh. It is located at 23.28 N 74.56 E at about 1847m above the sea level. There are two kedareshwar (bada kedareshwar and chota kedareshwar), both are 4km away from Sailana fort and Shivgarh Marg but in opposite directions.

Kedareshwar is a religious tourist spot which is situated between picturesque hills.Many visitors come here for darshan and Jal Abhishek on Shivling.In the rainy season, a large number of devotees took advantage of the philosophy and founded the natural beauty.[2] Because of its atmosphere and peaceful nature make it an attractive tourist place. In the rainy season may visitors found it a lovely picnic spot.

How to reach Kedareshwar:[3] edit

The temple kedareshwar is situated 4km from Sailana and 20 km from Ratlam city.The location of temple cave is lie close between the small hills. Going to the temple will bring you lots of beautiful and charismatic views.The route is easy and it took 1 hour from Ratlam. Sailana is well connected to Ratlam via roads and many transport buses are available from Ratlam to Sailana.You can also book a cab or taxi from Ratlam to Sailana to reach temple.The morning ride from Ratlam to Sailana is mesmerizing and small hills with cool breeze give a feel of hill station in MadhyaPradesh. The divine nature and beautiful sight make the traveler to visit again to these place in every rainy season.

The Kedareshwar is mostly famous for its waterfall.The beautiful sights of nature and its venue make its elegant tourist place. Shivling here is natural.Water from the nearby rocks is collected here and takes the form of a beautiful waterfalls.When it falls in the pool near the temple from the height, then small watery drops of water provide an iridescent luster to the atmosphere.Every year on Maha Shivratri hundreds of people come here for worshipping lord Shiva. Despite of being heavy rainfall, the devotion of people to come to this temple and worship has not reduced till date. Every year in the Hindu calendar month Shravan, the devotees feel trapped in God's love. Every year on the occasion of Hindu festivals and dates like Shivaratri, Vaishakh Purnima and Kartik Purnima fair is being organized. In the month of Shravan, a lot of pilgrims come here and do Jal Abhishek of Lord Bholenath. Water from nearby small streams get collected near the rocks and form a beautiful waterfall. The water from the waterfall falls into a small pond near the temple from a height and the small water droplets create an iridescent misty luster in the atmosphere around the temple.According to Pandit Avantilal Trivedi, who recited here, 'This temple is from the time of Maharaja of Sailana. Today our fourth generation is engaged in the service of Bholenath. Even if there is heavy rainfall, the worship of this temple has not been dissolved till date. Every year in the month of Shravan, the devotees feel trapped. '[4]

Architecture of Kedareshwar Temple edit

The man made temple is carved out of a single rock cliff. The igneous rock is strong enough to sustain the harsh weather even after years. The architecture of this temple is mesmerizing and majorly made stone carvings. You can spend some time while exploring the auspicious cave of the ancient temple. The Lingam inside the cave is also made up of rock.

Another major attraction of the temple is a little stream. The stream gets generated from the top of the temple and the flows through the area and finally opens up in a local pond. The stream has enhanced the natural beauty of the place. The charismatic view of in and around the temple has increased the value of this place as a popular tourist attraction. Apart from the stream, the small hills also contribute to the beauty of the place. [5]

Mahakedareshwar temple is about 300 years old, mostly famous for its historical significance.Since 1730 this temple is known to be the resemblance of spirit lord Shiva.It under the rule of Maharaja Jai Singh[6]. The place became famous with the name of Kedareshwar mahadev (1736). First king of Salina (ruling regime 1730-1757), took revenge against his uncle for the murder of his father, and with his elder brother they shared the three estates amongst themselves.Later in 1730, he built the present capital of Salina, and became its first ruler, later got married and within few years had marriage issue.

Raja Duel Singh, the 9th king of sailing (1859-1895) spent 150000 for development of Kedareswar.[7]

Raja Jaswant Singh (1895-1919) donate his land to the livelihood of priest.

In 1991-92 the Ratlam District Admiration Department (RDAD) provided about ₨ 200,000 for renovation of temple again. Since ages a small river has been flowing through this place into a small pond which is a source of water for the village.

Culture at this place has been significantly been influenced by the culture of neighbouring state i.e. Rajasthan. Visitors are taking virtue by performing Darshan and Jal abhishek in Kedareshwar Mahadev Temple. During this period of time people of temple and visitors are seen to be enjoying together. This place is filled with large number of visitors in the rainy season due to public holidays and an urgency to find peace along with natural beauty. Devotees find pleasureas in rallies singing w songs in chaos, laughing and enjoying the natural beauty of the place.Multi- colored can be seen all over the auspicious place of kedareshwar also known as Miracle Mahadev Temple. Here is the wondrous Mahadev Temple. Below is a small statue of Maharaja Duleep singh under the waterfall of Shivling which was created to honor his work. The water that has been sacrificed on Shivling also falls on the idol of the Maharaja. In the month of Shravan, pilgrims perform well after embracing the letter and water. Hemp is the holy drink which gets consumed on large scale on this religious occassion of Mahashivratri. One of the best cultural heritage monumnet to look out for if you visit Madhya Pradesh. From the top of the tip a small river of monsoon rain water flows in the pond which is situated on the outskirts of the village, this place often becomes the bathing place for the devotees who visit the temple.

Festivals edit

Two times a year, Vaisakh and Kartik complete moon meet on Kedareshwar. These fair are imposed on the court of the district panchayat. In addition to these declared fairs, there is a fair atmosphere in Shivratri festival. Thousands of pilgrims visit Kedareshwar and perform Jalabhishek on Shivalinga. At 12 o'clock on the Shivratri festival there is a huge Mahara.On the Shravan Monday, there is a lot of visitors from outside for Darshan-Pooja. Shiva devotees await, only Jhajjam rain, so that with the waves of happiness they go for Kedareshwar Darshan and picnic and see the vast form of waterfall.[9]

According to the people living there the population of kedareshwar including the small villages nearby is not more than 5000 people. Due the low population the people of kedareshwar are well informed about each other and understands each other well. They can be said to be brother in pain.

Climate edit

Kedareshwar, like most of Madhya Pradesh, has humid subtropical climate (Cfa) zone. Basically the climate remains to be windy . The climate of the place is subtle, calm in every season which attracts the tourists to visit the place. Being humid due to waterfall keeps the place cool which gives the ambience of the hill station. Three distinct seasons are observed i.e. monsoons, summers and winters. Summers generally start in mid-March and can be extremely hot from April through June. Highs can reach 112 °F (43 °C), although the humidity is extremely low. The monsoon season starts in the late June, with temperatures averaging around 100 °F (38 °C), with sustained rainfall and high humidity. The average rain fall is 40 inches (937 mm). Winters start in mid-November and are dry, cool and sunny. Temperatures average about 39–46 °F (4–8 °C), but can fall close to freezing on some nights.

Many other spots for interest are situated near the divine place such as cactus garden, kirti stambh , kharmore bird sanctuary.

  • Cactus garden :-Cactus Garden is developed in the backyard of the sailana fort . The garden is confined with almost 1200 type of cactus from all over the world. it is one of the most famous places of madhya pradesh and also a popular tourist spot to attract. It is a collection of rare species of cactus from australia.[11]
  • Kirti stambh:-Another ancient monument known as kirti stambh built with stones and cement. It was constructed in the year 1919. Being an another tourist spot it attracts people and tourists. It is been said that it was used by the king to view the far threat coming towards them.

Situated near sailana accompanies an endangered species in it known as kharmore or lesser florican . Many people visit the place in monsoon for the view of the bird jumping upto six feets up in the air. ell a very less number of people are able to see the amazing bird.
