Cut-Tex PRO
Cut-Tex PRO is a cut resistant and fire resistance textile, and a registered trademark of PPSS Group. As a technical fabric, Cut-Tex PRO is a groundbreaking combination of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene fibres and other technical fibres weaved by special high-density knitting machines, resulting in an outstanding cut-resistant fabric [1] . Cut-Tex PRO has been developed in order to manufacture light-weight [2] knife, slash or cut resistant clothing whilst allowing flexibility and breathability. Cut-Tex PRO has been tested to BS EN 388:2003 6.2 Blade Cut Resistance Level 5 and BS EN 13997:2003 (Determination of resistance to cutting by sharp objects).
Properties
editCut Resistance
editCut-Tex PRO has been developed to provide effective cut resistance whilst allowing flexibility and breathability. A combination of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene fibres and fiberglass are essential for this high performance textile. Depending on operational duties and risks and individual requirements, other fibres such as polyester, nylon and spandex are added.
Bite Resistance
editCut-Tex PRO’s manufacturer claims that its ultra high cut resistance textile also offers bite resistance from human bites. Due to the protective properties of the two main fibres used in Cut-Tex PRO bite resistance from human bites is offered, but not from animal bites, such as aggressive dogs. This is primarily due to the force and pressure that can be found in large animals.
Fire Resistance
editThe fire resistance level of Cut-Tex PRO has been established by the widely recognized test and standard BS EN 533:1997 (Protection against heat and flame). The fire resistance level can be increased by adding further fibres such as Kevlar to the manufacturing process.
Puncture Resistance
editCut-Tex PRO does not offer puncture resistance, as it is a knitted fabric. However during the manufacturing process of bespoke cut resistant clothing additional materials are used to offer puncture resistance to the highest level.
Applications
editThere is a wide range of applications for Cut-Tex PRO:
