Mmakole Mphahlele

Born in the late 90s, Mmakole Koketso R Mphahlele is an aspiring entrepreneur and dedicated academic. She is an alumni of the North West University (Potchefstroom campus) and a current postgraduate student of the same university, involved in a number of business ventures and outreach programs including Help a student study (HASS) a non profit organisation she founded with 3 other partners from her university days to help alleviate the challenges met by a number of black students from disadvantaged background face in trying to get the necessary prescribed textbooks to excel in their higher education studies.

Early years

Born to John Mphahlele and Joyce Modiehi Mphahlele in Mamelodi east in Pretoria South Africa on what has been described as one of the coldest November nights, she was named after her great grandmother Mmakole. She would go on to be raised by her grandmother as her parents, being teachers went to fend for the means to raise her and support her grandmother as was the practice back then.

Education

She would go on to first attend her primary school at Sunnyside primary school in Pretoria South Africa before moving to Edendale at her later year. She would go on to attend her high school at the hoerskool do a deo where she Matriculated in 2014 with Flying colours.

She then went on to study at the centre for Business Mathematics and Informatics centre of the Northwest university in the Northwest Province of South Africa, graduating record time in 2017 with a barchelor of Science degree before registering for her BSc honours degree in the same centre in 2018 where she is currently studying.

Work experience:

Mmakole Mphahlele has garnered a long list in terms of work experience, the most impressive being selected to partake in the winter Standard Bank risk internship program in 2017, merely being a third year student with no degree at the time. What makes this feat very impressive is the fact that the requirements for the program had clearly stated that it was only for honours and masters student for the year and the fact she was accepted stands testament of the potential she holds. She would go on to be the only third year student selected for that program the rest being predominantly masters students.

She has also been part of ABSIP NWU student chapter, being the founding secretary of the chapter.
