Lydia Martin edit

Lydia Martin is a student at Beacon Hills High School[1] in the MTV series Teen Wolf where she takes up the form of a Banshee. Lydia becomes an active member of Scott McCalls Teen Wolf Pack as she surrounds herself with other supernatural-like beings similar to herself. Lydia Martin is portrayed by the actress Holland Roden and appears in all 6 seasons of the series. [2]

Biography edit

Lydia's grandmother, Lorraine, was also a Banshee but she wasn't aware of her own abilities or even aware of the supernatural world around her and within her family. Lydia and Lorraine had a very close relationship, especially when Lydia was younger, Lorraine used to read The Little Mermaid to Lydia as a bedtime story as she would care for her granddaughter. Unfortunately, Lorraine was committed to Eichen House, a mental institute,[3] as everyone thought she was mentally ill and going crazy as she didn't understand her powers and what they were doing to her. Whilst being cared for at Eichen House, the powers became too much for Lorraine and she drilled into her head, resulting in her death. Another part of Lydia’s family trauma is that her parents were divorced from early on in her life causing her to develop a very toxic personality, Lydia tended to be very manipulative with her friends when it suited her, and if it got her what she wanted. Lydia could also be described as quite shallow and spoiled but it seemed to be all an elaborate act to hide her ridiculously high IQ, in which she excels in Chemistry and Latin.

Television Series edit

Season 1 - Lydia makes new friends within her high school life despite her bitter personality. Unfortunately, Lydia gets attacked by Peter, the Alpha Werewolf, which meant she should have turned into a werewolf from the supernatural bite but instead it only highlighted the Banshee powers that she would later understand the use of her powers.

Season 2 - Lydia helps bring Peter back to life using her powers as a Banshee, as well as helping Jackson Whittemore transform from Kanima to Werewolf, to bring out Jackson’s true self.

Season 3 - Lydia starts having a sexual relationship with Aidan, also a Werewolf, as well as discovering her true form and powers of becoming a Banshee. Whilst trying to get a handle on her powers, Lydia keeps finding herself at murder scenes without knowing how or why.

Season 4 - Lydia discovers that Lorraine, her grandmother, possessed some Banshee abilities which explains why everyone thought she had gone crazy because of the powers in her head. Lydia visited the Lakehouse, where she discovered her grandmother's soundproof room, in destroying this room Lydia discovered the Benefactors Dead Pool.

Season 5 - Lydia is sent to Eichan House after the trauma of getting attacked by Theo Raeken, a Chimera, as well as the Dread Doctors interfering with her brain. Meredith, the Benefactor, helps Lydia to understand her powers more but doesn't help Lydia in any other way as she wants to do more harm than good.

Season 6 - Lydia figures out the connection between the Wild Hunt and the Ghost riders as well as searching for Stiles, one of the only non - supernatural characters by the end of the series.

Relationships edit

Lydia’s first boyfriend of the series was Jackson but because of her manipulative personality traits, Jackson was only used in order for Lydia to maintain her popularity at school. However, Lydia showed her true feelings for Jackson in the end when she saved his life and freed him from the form of a Kanima. Unfortunately for Lydia, Jackson moved to London and left Lydia feeling emotionally numb until she met and fell in love with Aiden. In season 3, however, Aiden was killed by the Nogitsune, [4]creating another tragic ending to one of Lydia’s relationships. After Aiden’s death, Lydia’s feelings for Stiles slowly start to develop overtime which explains why finding him became so important to her.
