Mrs. Skanotto is an American third-wave ska, rock, and punk band. Described by the Rochester City Newspaper as "goosing it's ska with doses of curious exploration beyond the strict parameters of the sound," Mrs. Skannotto has released five albums and toured with Less Than Jake, The Toasters, Reel Big Fish and Mad Caddies.[1][2][3][4]
History
editMrs. Skannotto was founded at Bates College in 1998 by Mark Annotto, a devout ska and reggae fan. The name was derived from Annotto's nickname, Skanotto. The band chose Mrs. Skanotto in honor of Annotto's mother, who had taken the band to dinner prior to a competition which required that they have a name. A loosely formed group of six to nine which rotated as band members graduated or moved on, Mrs. Skannotto performed regularly in its Bates incarnation and released the album Burning Inferno of Fire in 2002.[5][6] [7] [8]
In 1999 trumpeter Justin Lloyd joined Mrs. Skannotto. In 2002, he returned to his hometown of Rochester, New York and re-established Mrs. Skannotto as a Rochester-based band. A part-time project, the band independently released Bet You Didn't See This Coming in 2006 and The Long Dark Road in 2010. After a lineup change in 2011, the band became a more serious pursuit for its six members. Since then, they have released two albums (All These Evolutions and Outlier) and toured consistantly as a headliner and as an opening act with artists including The Toasters and Less Than Jake.
