Proposal edit

My topic for the Wikipedia project is youth mentoring. Currently on Wikipedia there is a youth mentoring page, however it only mentions the history of the youth mentoring movement and mentoring the children of prisoners. The page is lacking a lot of useful information about youth mentoring. The page also has a warning for the lack of a worldwide view as well as formatting issues. My goal is to add a global aspect, the outcomes mentoring has on youth, as well as information about specific mentoring programs. My first goal is to add work on the worldwide view of the page, seeing as that is a main focus of the class. I hope to incorporate mentoring importance around the world, in countries such as India, where mentoring has recently started up. I hope to unpack more findings of the importance of youth mentoring, and the effects it has on children’s lives and compare that between the United States and other countries. I also plan to incorporate the different methods used for mentoring, such as school-based, community-based or E-mentoring. I feel that by adding a section about actual working mentoring organizations will give the article more depth and meaning. Being able to back up the findings of purpose as well as effect with a functioning organization will give the reader perspective when reading the article. I plan on using Big Brothers Big Sisters as the main organization because although their headquarters are in the United States they have eleven other countries partnered with their efforts. I also plan to look at Mentor Me India an organization comparable to Big Brothers Big Sisters but not affiliated and the ways in which it tailors to India’s needs as a country
