DrillDance Australia
DrillDance Australia is the governing body for the sport of DrillDance in Australia. Formerly known as the Australian Marching Association, the sport has been in existence in Australia since the early 1940's.
DrillDance teams exist Australia wide. Teams may have between 6 to 20 members and are formed according to age groupings: Under 9, Under 12 (Junior), Under 17 (Intermediate), Seniors and Masters. Teams perform at competitions in their home State throughout the season, culminating in State Championships and Australian Championships each year. The Australian Championships are held in adifferent capital city each year on a rotational basis. Competitions are conducted indoors, usually in basketball arenas or entertainment centres.
As a low impact activity, DrillDance is a sport that can be done safely at any age. For young people, it provides the opportunity to perform exciting routines to modern music with costumes to suit the chosen theme and style of routine. For older age groups, particularly those who may return to the sport after a long absence, it offers the opportunity to keep active, maintain co-ordination and good posture with all the obvious health and social benefits of a team-based activity.
Depending on the age group, teams may perform routines in the following categories: Basic Drill, Technical Drill, Exhibition Drill, Thematic Drill, Thematic Dance and Prop DrillDance. Each team has at least one Coach, Team Coordinator and/or Manager. Teams are usually part of a Club and are located in suburban as well as country areas. As well as performing at competitions, DrillDance teams regularly perform entertaining routines at community, sporting and corporate events.
