Early life and education edit

John William Landt was born in 1845 in frankfurt, Germany. The son of Peter Joseph Lindt, customs officer and mother Justine Nee Rambach. At the age of 17 he Joined a dutch sailing ship, he deserted in Brisbane in 1863.

1860s edit

In 1862, he became a photographic assistant to Conrad Wagner which is whom he learnt the craft from. The process they used were colonial wet plate process. in 1868 lindt took over as manager of the Grafton studio.

1870s edit

In early 1870's he opened his own business of a studio on prince street, using the same process he learnt off Wagner.

Personal life edit

In 1872 landt married Conrad's daughter Anna Maria Dorothea. She later died on the 27 of May 1888, which was the result of bearing a still born. Landt married a retoucher, Catherine Elizabeth Cousense on 10 of July 1889.
