Biography

edit

Bumble was a honey bee from San Diego, CA. She was born in the "Bee Farm" at the San Diego Zoo. As a worker bee, her responsibility is to transform the nectar that has been collected into honey by dehydrating it. This was important for survival of the colony in the winter when life depended on reserved honey and pollen. [1]

On a average morning in summer 1988, Bumble was out performing daily duties as a worker bee in her colony when other bees took notice at how fast she was able to turn nectar into honey. Local newspaper articles turned into national headlines across the bee community, Bumble was a hero. She was able to produce honey not only for her colony but others as well. Even holding the world record for fastest producer of honey, an untouched record to this day.

Sadly after four short years Bumble died are stinging a human trying to protect her queen. The community took her loss very hard and have searched far and wide for someone to replace her talents as a worker be that were unheard of. San Diego Zoo renamed the exhibit to "Bumble's Bee Farm" and have made it their goal to educate the community on the devastation it causes when disrupting the bees while they're preparing for the upcoming winter.
