Coat of arms of Norman MacLeod of MacLeod, as chief of Clan MacLeod

Norman MacLeod of MacLeod (18 July 1812 – 5 February 1895) was the 25th chief of the Scottish clan Clan MacLeod.

Biography edit

Norman MacLeod of MacLeod, the son of John Norman MacLeod of MacLeod, 24th chief of the Scottish clan Clan MacLeod and his wife Anne Stephenson was born in 1812, at Dunvegan.

In 1837 he married the Hon. Louisa Barbara St. John (1818-1880), posthumous daughter of the 14th Baron St. John of Bletso (1759-1817) and Louisa, daughter of Sir Charles Rouse-Boughton, by whom he had four sons. In 1881 he married, secondly, Hanna, daughter of Baron von Ettingshausen (subsequently, Countess Vincent de Latour).

His first son, Norman Magnus (1839-1929), who succeeded him as Clan Chief (the 26th), died without issue. His second son, Torquil Olave (1841-1857), died without issue. Norman Magnus was, therefore, succeeded by Norman MacLeod of MacLeod's third son. Sir Reginald MacLeod of MacLeod (1847-1935), the 27th Clan Chief. Sir Reginald had no sons. The fourth son, Canon Roderick Charles MacLeod of MacLeod (1852-1934), had had only one son, Iain and he had been killed in action in 1915. As there were no remaining close male heirs, Sir Reginald's daughter Dame Flora MacLeod of MacLeod, therefore, ultimately succeeded as Clan Chief.

Norman MacLeod of MacLeod died in Paris in 1895.
