Idea edit

I thought it would be interesting to try to create an open version of The Clock (2010 film). The idea is simple enough, but it will be a ton of work to gather the clips. That may never happen, but at least this page is a place to note down any clocks I see in films to potentially assemble a clock film from later.

Rules edit

  • The clock has to be visible and clearly readable — the goal is that this video can serve as a "clock" of sorts, even with the sound off
  • The clock must represent the time in the film. If the clock is broken, then it's not appropriate
  • If the clock is being used to show the advance of time (time-lapse), that doesn't count, though the initial shot of the clock could count if it's suitable
  • Bonus points if the time is spoken out loud in the film, but this is not necessary
  • 12-hour clocks can serve as either time, though they should only appear once in the final film, and in general if it's obvious which of the two times it is (e.g., 1pm vs. 1am), it's better if it can be in that slot
  • Cell phones / computers don't count unless the shot is clearly focused specifically on the time
  • Iconic shots are great, maybe even slightly preferred
  • Films that would appear in dozens or more slots should be mentioned separately
E.g., a film that has a 30-minute long shot of a clock, or an avant-garde film of just a clock, or a film that is very focused on a countdown (like the TV show 24) and thus will show the clock dozens of times as a particular moment nears.
  • Shots of a time as an intertitle should generally be excluded unless they are particularly interesting for some reason
  • TBD: shots where the time is printed on the screen (e.g., "Center for Disease Control, 11:35am"). They might work well towards the desired effect, but I'm not sure. Diegetic seems better? but I could be wrong.
