Doctor Rohit Singh Malan, (born 21 February 1989) is a serving Officer in the Government of India[1]. He is a Group 'A' officer belonging to the 2015 batch of UPSC's Civil Services [2]. He recently completed his MBA from Indian Institute Of Management Ahmedabad (Class of 2023)[3].

Early life edit

Dr Rohit Singh Malan was born in Kamalpur Village, Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India on 21 February 1989.[4] His father's name is Group Captain Sonpal Singh (Retd.) who is a former technical officer in Indian Air Force. Rohit got his education through schools in various states of India because of his father's transferable job. His mother is a former teacher.

Rohit completed his MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) from University of Delhi [5]. He was a member of the Students Union and Editor of the college magazine. After clearing Civil Services Examination, Rohit underwent training as a trainee officer at National Institute of Defence Estates Management[6]. He recently graduated with an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad while being on study leave from the government. He was the Secretary of the Healthcare Hawx Club. Also, he represented IIM Ahmedabad in sports competitions. He played Badminton. He went to ESADE Business School as part of International Immersion Programme in September 2022 as part of curriculum at IIM Ahmedabad.

In 2020, Rohit received an offer from Kellogg School of Management for its 2 year MBA program but he decided not to pursue it due to personal reasons.

Career edit

After MBBS, Rohit worked as a junior resident doctor in Government of NCT of Delhi[7]. As he was preparing for Civil Services Examination, he would work for 2 to 3 months only in a year. He did this between 2013 and 2015. After clearing the Civil Services Examination of 2014, he was appointed as a Group 'A' officer in Government of India in May 2016 [8]. He underwent his induction training at National Institute of Defence Estates Management (NIDEM), Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

Rohit's first appointment was that of Deputy Assistant Director General in New Delhi. He later served as Chief Executive Officer and Member-Secretary of Jhansi Cantonment Board between 2017 and 2019. Thereafter, he served as Chief Executive Officer and Member Secretary of Cannanore Cantonment Board between Jan 2019 and October 2020. He then went on to work as Defence Estates Officer, Pathankot Circle[9] till April 2022 when he proceeded on a study leave.

Awards and accomplishments edit

In 2017, Rohit received 'Raksha Mantri Award for Excellence' for his work in healthcare service delivery in Jhansi Cantonment Board. In 2017 itself, he also received the 'Award for Appreciation' from Minister of State for Defence for eliminating 'open defection' in Jhansi Cantonment under 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan' (Clean India Campaign). In 2018, Rohit was decorated with GoC-in-C Commendation from Indian Army.

In 2020, Rohit worked to contain COVID-19 in Cannanore Cantonment which has thousands of troops living close to the District Hospital.

In 2022, Rohit received his second 'Award for Excellence' from the Minister of Defence for completing a flagship project of the Government of India.

Other activities edit

Apart from speaking fluent English and Hindi, Rohit has basic knowledge of Spanish, German and French. He is a certified SCUBA diver. He knows PYTHON coding language (beginner). He has been writing on Quora since 2021[10]. He writes poetry in English and Hindi[11].
