Herman Muehlstein is founder of Muehlstein, a plastic and rubber compounding company opened founded in 1911 in New York City. Herman Muehlstein was born in what was at the time, Austria-Hungary. He immigrated to America and started Muehlstein with his life savings of 40,000 dollars. When he died in // he left behind his shares in his company to his employees. Herman also left his prized collection of rare books to The University of Akron which started the Herman Muehlstein Rare Book Collection.

Herman Muehlstein was born in 1880 in Austria Hungary to Gabriel and Rosie Muehlstein. Herman was one of 5 children including his brother Julius and his sisters Yetta, Bertha and Hannah.
