"Who is hearing that sound?" is a Zen-koan in which one investigates who is the "I" that is hearing sounds. Synonymous questions are "Who is it?", "Who am I", "Who is dragging this corpse around?

The only time that Yamada Rōshi talked to me about his own practice after finishing his kōan study, he said, “I work on Bassui Zenji's kōan, 'Who is hearing that sound?"[1]
