Wietse Amersfoort, better known by his stage name Psyko Punkz (born July 19, 1986), is a Dutch Hardstyle artist, who is under contract with the Belgain Hardstyle label Dirty Workz.[1] When it comes to Hardstyle, Psyko Punkz is one of the influential DJ's of the genre, thanks to his unique and hard-hitting take on the sub-genre Hardstyle.[2] Throughout his career Psyko Punkz released numerous songs on Dirty Workz, Fusion Records, Revealed Recordings, Q-Dance Records, b2s Records, Zoo Records (Toffmusic) and on his own label Shadow Mask Music.

Biography

Wietse Amersfoort holding a special love for music that sustained him through his childhood years, he started producing music by the age of fifteen.[3] In 2008 he teamed up with counterpart member Sven Sieperda, after that, the Psyko Punkz legacy was born. Psyko Punkz quickly signed to the Belgian label Dirty Workz, and they began performing live DJ sets at some (Hard) Dance concepts worldwide including Tomorrowland, Qlimax, Hard Bass, Decibel Outdoor, Defqon.1 Festival (The Netherlands, Australia and Chile), Reverze, Mysteryland and Germany’s Nature One.[4]

In 2010, their title Bass Boom is voted "best song" at the Hard Dance Awards. The official title posted on YouTube reached 1.5 million views in 10 months and hit at the moment almost 10 million views.[5] In 2011 Psyko Punkz was ranked in the category "Best New Group" at the Hard Dance Awards. Psyko Punkz was also on the DJ Mag Top 100 several times, in 2011 at number 78 and in 2012 at number 67.[3]

In 2012 year they were selected to compose the annual anthem of Qlimax, called Fate or Fortune. In 2014, they were selected again to compose an anthem, this time for the hard dance festival Decibel Outdoor. In June 2014, the duo announced its new project called Shadow Mask Music, which is an independent label. They released the first single, Drunken Masta, soon after.

After eight years as a duo, Sven made the decision in 2016 to resign from the act, opening up Wietse to grasp the baton and continue Psyko Punkz as a solo project.[6]

In 2016, Psyko Punkz performed twice at Defqon.1. The first time as a solo act, and the second time together with his counterpart member Sven Sieperda. This was the last time they performed together. In the same year he releashed his first solo single called Spaceship, which hit almost the 5 million streams on Spotify.[7]

Psyko Punk has represented some Hard Dance concepts with official anthems for Qlimax, Decibel Outdoor, The Qontinent, Bassleader and Reverze[8] and performed at shows far away from Europe, including stops across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Chili, Australia, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. Dropping numerous anthems during their early years.

Grasping 2017 with such fervency, Psyko Punkz proudly released his first solo album in April, titled “Wietse.” Plain, simple and personal, this album is a summation of Psyko Punkz as an artist.[8] [9] In that year he also performed at the Defqon.1 fifteen year anniversary edition as part of the Legends set, which honours the legends of the harddance industry.
