I began my musical journey at the age of five taking piano lessons at Deborah’s Pianoforte. From here, I learned the basics on the piano as well as in theory. At the age of six, I was introduced to singing at my church home, Foothill Missionary Baptist Church where I joined the Children’s and Youth Choir. Once involved, I began to work on my performance skills and stage presence. During the spring of my last year of elementary school, I auditioned and was accepted to Oakland School for the Arts under the Instrumental Music Department where I continued to work on my skills in piano and theory. I then began to feel that the art of Vocal Music was a better fit for myself and after being featured in an alumni cabaret, I was discovered by Vocal Music chair Cava Menzies, who felt that I would be a great addition into the School of Vocal Music. As I transitioned from instrumental to vocal, I strengthened my stage presence, theory, performance, and arranging skills. Through the School of Vocal Music, I was given many opportunities such as performing in venues such as the historic Fox Theater and the Oracle Arena, going on a concert tour in New Orleans, Louisiana, working as a background singer with the up and coming group Cavalisa, and working with the amazing number one high school A Cappella group in the nation, Vocal Rush. Because of these opportunities and all of the teachings through the School of Vocal Music, I was awarded the Most Outstanding Soloist Award in the Semi-Finals and Finals of the 2013 ICHSA competition (International Championship of High School A Cappella). My final achievement in my high school career took place in the summer of 2013, where Vocal Rush and myself participated and placed 3rd on the National NBC television show, The Sing-Off. Now, I attend Berklee College of Music where I am studying Music Business with a focus in Management. I have participated in a multitude of shows and performance opportunities such as features in Berklee caf shows and videos, Beantown Jazz Festival, and have been mostly involved with Berklee's premiere a cappella group, Pitch Slapped with whom I have gone on tours to many states within the US and most recently, and international tour in China. I hope to continue participating in all that Berklee has to offer before I graduate in 2017. Beyond that, I want to continue creating myself into my own artist and work on what I have to offer to the world of music.
