Jon was born and raised in the Vancouver area before moving to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1975. A strong interest in Radio began on February 9, 1962, when he began listening to CFUN Radio during their weekly Top 50 countdown.
Although he chose a career in Computing, beginning with a Computer Science degree from the University of British Columbia in 1974 and ending with his retirement in 2007, his love of Radio began as a CFUN listener, turned to long distant stations as a DX'er, worked briefly at radio stations in Vancouver, Trail, Prince Rupert and Yellowknife, and now, in retirement, as Webmaster and Chair of the Edmonton Broadcasters Club.
