John Holmes Gillis, III, (1976- ) is an Irish American Certified Paralegal, Sociologist and Social Justice advocate.

Mr. Gillis is the grandson of John Holmes Gillis, Sr. and Phyla McPhereson Gillis of County Cork, Ireland, son of Admiral Robert E. Gillis, Sr. ( US - Navy Ret.) and Brenda (Nichols) Gillis of New London, Connecticut.

Mr. Gillis holds a bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Sociology from Eastern Connecticut State University, a master's degree in Social Justice from Northeastern University in Boston, and has his Paralegal Certification from the College of Professional Studies at Northeastern University in Boston.

Mr. Gillis is best known for his Paralegal work in the landmark case of Goodridge v. Department of Public Health, which held that the Massachusetts Constitution upholds same-sex marriage. Essentially, allowing marriage among the LGBTQIA+ community for the Commonwealth. The first US state to do so.
