NOTE TO SELF: ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT THIS IS AN OPEN FORUM. BACKUP THE GOOD STUFF.

The following is a working sandbox of useful code bits.

Revealing code edit

First, we want to see code without enabling it. Wikiformatification (highly advanced technobabble) offers several options for casting just such enchantments upon these cogs, slowing the code to a halt like an episode of How Do They Do It? or How It's Made.

NOTE: In this section, the code is shown using the various code shown in this section. Also, <"code">or</"code">⇒tags

Show tags without enabling it:

<nowiki> tags display as plain text between the 'nowiki' tag </nowiki>

Highlight code with:

<code> highlight the code using the 'code' tag </code>

Code column partially preformatted with pre tags:

Code Produces
<pre>[[article]]</pre>
[[article]]
[[article]]
article
<code>[[article]]</code>
article
<nowiki>[[article]]</nowiki>
[[article]]
<nowiki><pre>[[article]]</pre></nowiki>
<pre>[[article]]</pre>
<pre><nowiki>[[article]]</nowiki></pre>
[[article]]
<code><pre>[[article]]</pre></code>
[[article]]
<pre><code>[[article]]</code></pre>
<code>[[article]]</code>
<code><nowiki>[[article]]</nowiki></code>
[[article]]
<nowiki><code>[[article]]</code></nowiki>
<code>[[article]]</code>
<pre><code><nowiki>[[article]]</nowiki></code></pre>
<code>[[article]]</code>
<pre><nowiki><code>[[article]]</code></nowiki></pre>
<code>[[article]]</code>
<code><pre><nowiki>[[article]]</nowiki></pre></code>
[[article]]
<nowiki><pre><code>[[article]]</code></pre></nowiki>
<pre><code>[[article]]</code></pre>
<code><nowiki><pre>[[article]]</pre></nowiki></code>
<pre>[[article]]</pre>
<nowiki><code><pre>[[article]]</pre></code></nowiki>
<code><pre>[[article]]</pre></code>
And the code of the code of the code looks like this:

<pre><nowiki><code><pre>[[article]]</pre></code></nowiki></pre>

Voilà!
Ampersand gt Semicolon → >
Ampersand lt Semicolon → <
The code for symbol-codes won't display under any of the preceding conditions.[citation needed] It's recursively reclusive.[1]

Citations edit

Category:Citation templates

Include as much information as is definitively available (if you're not sure, don't guess) and at the very least include the URL for web, the title and author for books, journals or news. Be aware that dates included on sites such as YouTube are often not the actual date of release and should not be included as such; IMDb has more reliable information in that regard. Be confident that the info you include is legitimate and preferably from a source that won't be taken down from the internet in the near future, and avoid questionable sites in general.

Concerning likely soon-to-be dead links, archive ephemeral (though trustworthy) pages.

Practically speaking, this one gets used more often, deleting unnecessary or unavailable items:

<ref>{{Cite web |last= |first= |title= |work= |publisher= |url= |date= |accessdate= }}</ref>

What's a DOI? Digital Object Identifier

DOI.org
The DOI system is now an ISO standard for "assigning a unique international identification code to objects for use on digital networks".[2]

Help:Interwiki linking edit

Note: Don't put links in section titles.

References edit

  1. ^ Lastname, Firstname (Date). "Title" (Format). Work. Publisher. Retrieved Access Date. {{cite web}}: Check date values in: |accessdate= and |date= (help); Unknown parameter |coauthors= ignored (|author= suggested) (help)

{{reflist}}
By default, there's one column. Also, the R in reflist doesn't need to be capitalized. Moreover, Wiki format is generally indifferent to capitalization ... except in the case of symbol-codes (i.e. the gt in "ampersand gt semicolon" must be lower-case, > won't raster the same as >)
{{Reflist|3}}
This reference list would have three columns, supposing there were at least three references to list.
<div class='references-small'>
<references/>
{{Refbegin}}
{{Refend}}
</div>
Forget this stuff here ... it shouldn't be used when templating a new article.

Just use {{reflist|2 or 3}} or bring it home with {{reflist}}.
