Peter Cooke (born 1949) is a Utah business owner, real estate developer, and retired major general in the United States Army Reserves. Cooke, whose father was a pilot for Pan American Airlines, graduated from high school in Germany. In 2012, Cooke announced his candidacy for Governor of Utah.
Early Life edit
Cooke’s father was a pilot for Pan American Airlines and his family traveled frequently. Cooke graduated from Frankfurt American High School in 1967. [1] Cooke received his bachelor’s in political science from Utah State University in 1971. He received is master’s, again in political science, in 1973 from USU. During his time at USU, Cooke was a member of the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). [2][3]

After graduating from Utah State University, Cooke served in the United States Army Reserves. In 2009, Cooke was awarded the Army Community of Excellence Award.[4] After 39 years, he retired as a 2-star Major General Cooke. At his retirement, he was the commander of the 96th Regional Readiness Command.[2][3]
Cooke ran for a Congressional bid in 1978, but lost. Under former Utah Governor, Scott Matheson, Cooke served as the Director of Economic Development.[2] In 2012, Cooke declared his candidacy for Governor of Utah.[5]
