Red Star/White Star by Simulations Publications, Inc edit

Red Star/White Star (hereafter, RSWS) was/is a battalion level simulation of modern combined-arms combat set in the 1970s. The main combatants are the US, Germany and the Soviet Union. The simulation is played on a hexagon-grid mapsheet of generic terrain in western Europe. The scale is 300 meters per hexagon. These hexagons regulate movement of the various units as well as the ranged fire of same.

The units are formations of tanks, infantry (both mechanized and "soft" INF squads), artillery, reconnaissance as well as helicopter units. The US/German formations are platoon/company-sized groups whereas the formations representing the Soviet Union forces are company/battalion-sized. It is possible, with the pieces provided, to field an entire Soviet tank division.

The units all use attack and defense strength numbers that quantify the unit's ability to fight and defend itself. The game pieces have this information printed directly onto the 1/2 inch sized playing pieces. The game has several optional rule sections including the use of tactical nuclear munitions of 1kt and 10kt. These rules are not very realistic in their effects.

The game includes ten pre-written scenarios fielding Soviet regiment formations against US/German battalions in a variety of situations.
