History of mills

At the start of the village there was Zakrajškov mill and also a saw and a mill bought by Peter Pakiž from Ribnica, later Franc Juvanc bought the mill and he is still the owner of it. Mill is more than 250 years old and the saw was built in 1850.

The second mill was owned by Stopar (Pavlin) and it is 150 years old. When the iron works building was closed at the end of the previous century Anton Adamič bought a mill and a saw from him. He had a lot of land, pubs, and a slaughterhouse and he exported meat to Trst. Because he came in debt he needed to sell all of his property to Janez Pavlin who lived in the United States. His brother Jernej was working at the saw and at the mill his second brother Anton.

The third of the mills was at the end of the village and was called Brdavsov mill. Mill was built in 1865, the owner of which was Janez Adamič, brother of Stopar’s mill owner. It was built in front of a cave where Rašica disappears and the wheels of the mill were inside the cave. Water came inside through a small tunnel dug in rocks. When Janez Adamič died the owner of a mill became his daughter. She didn’t marry so she adopted her niece Franco Pugelj and in 1930 gave the mill to her. She wasn’t happy about it so she closed it in 1940.
