Photography

edit

Joe is passionate about photography, and loves to share it with other people who are interested. He has been an avid photographer since he got a DSLR for his birthday in high school. He a very visual learner, and to him photography is a powerful tool to share ideas and emotion. He uses a Nikon D90. He enjoys shooting concerts, nature, architecture, people, food, the night sky, cityscapes, and sunsets. You can view his photography website here. He is forever in pursuit of the perfect configuration of ISO, aperture, and shutter speed when it comes to photography.

Ultimate Frisbee

edit

For almost a decade Joe has played the eclectic sport of Ultimate Frisbee[1]. After captaining his high school team, he played five years on the University of Pittsburgh Ultimate Frisbee team. He won two national championships, and made the friends he would keep for the next five years. Playing a competitive sport for so long he learned the discipline and leadership skills to be an effective teammate.

Hospitality

edit

Joe's family has owned a Bed & Breakfast in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland called the Carmel Cove Inn[2] for 22 years. His mom taught him everything he knows about gourmet food. Mary Bender is a perfectionist, and working for her Joe learned the value of holding yourself to a high standard in a kitchen. Quality of food is directly proportional to the care put into the preparation. After working in a kitchen, he fell in love with cuisine. Despite being an ill-equipped college student, he does all he can to explore the culinary world. A night out, in a dimly lit booth, at the new Pittsburgh restaurant is paradise to Joe. Although, he would just as happily take his time to craft a beast of a dinner at home.
