History edit

Abaca was founded in November 2005 by Steve Kirsch, formerly the founder of Propel Software Corporation, Infoseek Corporation (acquired by The Walt Disney Company), Mouse Systems Corporation, and co-founder of Frame Technology Corp (acquired by Adobe Systems).

The company’s first product was the Abaca Email Protection Gateway.

The company was officially launched in October 2007 introducing the company’s proprietary, patent-pending technology ReceiverNet[1] and its 99 percent accuracy guarantee[2]. At the same time, Abaca introduced its email security appliance products: the Abaca Email Protection Gateway hardware appliances (EPG 100 and EPG 1000) and the Abaca Virtual Email Protection Gateway virtual appliance (VPG 1500).

In December 2007, Leo Jolicoeur was appointed chief executive officer of Abaca Technology Corporation[3].

Abaca Email Protection Gateway EPG 3000 was released in April 2008[4], providing Abaca’s first product entry for the enterprise market.

In June 2008, Network Products Guide announced the winners of their 2008 Product Innovation Awards. Abaca’s Virtual Email Protection Gateway VPG 1500 was awarded the winner in the virtualization category[5].
