The Doolittle Raid

The attack on pearl harbor started the day of December 7th, 1941. Pearl Harbor was the tragic event of the surprise attack by Japan. They killed many, bombing the hospitals on the dock of Pearl Harbor. Many lives were lost. Even the innocent lives of crew workers that had only the janitorial part of the war. Japan thought America lost the war. There was nothing they could do. No answers from anyone, only crushed American spirits. Captain Francis Low. They asked if there were any possible ideas for the war. Captain Doolittle said yes I have an idea. He believed that they could put 16 B-25 Mitchell's on the USS hornet. Everyone thought he was crazy, and it was. But he proved to them that it was possible. They went to the desert, they painted out exactly what the USS Hornet deck looked like. He proved to them that he could take off from that short of a landing strip with other planes behind each bomber as well. The 18th of April came. 1942. The Doolittle raid. They took off with 86 feet of room. “We're heading to Tokyo.” Captain Edward J. said after getting airborne. They got there to Tokyo. Bombs dropping one after another. The innocent Japanese. Dying. Screams everywhere. Then dead. Everyone was gone, there were little to no survivors in the Tokyo area. Japan was scared. Now they had crushed spirits. They thought America was crazy for what they did. They were, but they knew it was the only way for them not to do something as tragic as Pearl Harbor again was to drop a bomb on them and make them scared straight. It was over and they couldn’t do anything. The war continued but Japan surrendered in 1945, the second of September. Captain Doolittle was one of the luckier pilots that got to land their planes in china. The Chinese were harsh on some but most of the bombers aborted their plane. Most pilots survived. This is the Doolittle raid.
