James Ray Zachery (born August 25, 1958) was a defensive tackle (linebacker in college) who played 8 seasons in the CFL from 1980 to 1987. Zachery was an 11th round draft pick of the New York Jets in 1980 out of Texas A&M, and after his release by New York, he signed as a free agent with Montreal in September of 1980. Zachery played 7 games with the Als in his rookie season, and remained with the Als through the end of the 1985 season. He missed a fair number of games due to injuries, but had his best season in Montreal in 1984 when he recorded 9.5 sacks in 16 games.

Zachery was released by Montreal in September, 1984, and joined the Edmonton Eskimos a year later in September of 1985. Zachery recorded an impressive 8 sacks in just 9 games with Edmonton in 1985. In 1986, Zachery had 9 sacks was named to the West All-Star team. Also in 1986, Zachery had an amazing 5 blocked kicks which is still a CFL single season record. Zachery's last season was 1987 when he recored 3 sacks and added 2 more blocked kicks in 18 games with Edmonton.

Zachery finished with a career total of 37 sacks and his career total of 7 blocked kicks is tied for fourth place on the CFL all-time list.

James Zachery was well liked by his team mates and fans. He was also a talented actor and musician. Unfortunately, James Zachery was killed by a gang in his home town of on January 25, 1994.

James was the proud father of 3. Klaesha S Zachery (Molly K. Hardy) Matthew J. Zachery (adopted) Kayla M. Atkey (Cindy Atkey).

James was raise in Midland, attending De Zaval Elementary, Pease Elementary, San Jacinto Jr. high, Austin Freshmen, Midland Senior High and Texas A&M University.
