Mick Walsh. Songwriter

edit

Mick Walsh is a songwriter and vocalist from the UK. He is best known for being a member of the 1990's band "The Adventures Of Stevie V along with fellow band members Steve Vincent (Stevie V) and Melody Washington (lead female vocalist). The band was formed in Bedford, England in 1989 and their biggest hit was the song Dirty Cash (Money Talks).

The 1990's

edit

Dirty Cash (Money Talks) was first released in 1989 when it entered the UK Charts and peaked at #98. The following year after extensive public promotion by the band and a remix by David Morales it was re released and climbed to the #2 spot in the UK only losing out on the #1 position by 40 units. In the USA the song made #28 on the Billboard Chart, #1 on the Radio Play Chart and #1 on the RnB chart.

Two further Vincent/Walsh collaborations "Body Language" and "Jealousy" followed as did the CD "The Adventures Of Stevie V" although both singles and the CD failed to make much impact on the charts. After the demise of "The Adventures of Stevie V" Walsh co- wrote the song "Set Me Free" for the Swedish band "Clubland" which reached #1 in the US Hot Dance Singles Sales chart.

In 1993 Walsh was briefly signed as an artist by Simon Cowell to his Arista label in London. The single a cover of the Beatles "And I Love Her" was never released and a year later Walsh was released from contract.

1n 1996 Walsh along with co-writers Dean Collinson and Gene Jacobs won the prestigious Vivian Ellis Prize "Certificate Of Merit" for their musical "Tomorrow Never Knows". As there was an age limitation on entrants, Walsh used his brother's birth certificate to prove he was in the acceptable age bracket. To this date the Vivian Ellis Prize still records "Kevin Walsh" as the award winner.

In September 1996 Walsh won the "Sing A Buddy Holly Song" which was organized and presented by Sir Paul McCartney at the Texas Cantina Restaurant in Trafalgar Square London. Walsh received a cash prize and the opportunity to have his song, a reworking of the the Buddy Holly track "Not Fade Away" produced by Sir Paul McCartney.

2005/2006

edit

In 2005 Dirty Cash was featured on the final Liberty X CD "X". The album was released amongst rumors that the band Liberty X were about to split which seriously damaged sales of the CD. As expected the album flopped and the band broke up the same year.

One year later in 2006 The Australian Band "Mind Electric" covered "Dirty Cash (Money Talks). This version of the Walsh co-write features on more compilation CD's than any other version and was massively popular in Dance Clubs internationally. Later that year the single was released in Australia where it reached number 5 in the charts.

2009/2010

edit

In September 2009 Walsh's song "Dirty Cash (Money Talks) was used as a sample on the Dizzee Rascal track "Dirtee Cash". The song which samples the verse and chorus from the original "Adventures Of Stevie V" track was included on Rascal's CD "Tongue N Cheek" "Dirtee Cash" was also released as the rapper's fourth single and entered the UK charts at #11 on iTunes downloads alone 6 weeks before it's official release date. However upon it's release no further headway into the charts was made and the song peaked at #10

The BRITS And Beyond

edit

As part of the 2010 Brit Awards Dizzee Rascal performed a duet with Florence Welsh from Florence and the Machine in which the single 'Dirtee Cash' was mixed with Florence's single 'You've Got the Love'. The performance was recorded and put on sale the next day with profits going to charity. The single shot to #1 on the day it was released and although the song "You've Got The Dirtee Love" bears little resemblance to the original Vincent/Walsh "Dirty Cash (Money Talks) due to copy write and publishing laws both writers are entitled to songwriting credits thus enabling them to claim their third UK top ten hit. In the Fall of 2010 Dirtee Cash will be featured in version 2 of the game DJ Hero

Mick Walsh now lives in New York where he continues to write and produce as well as being a successful vocal coach
