'Alaska's Ballot Measure 2'
Is an Act that if enacted will cause oil companies in Alaska to pay a tax on oil reserves that the oil corporations are not developing at this time.
Opposition Discourages Oil developement
1. Oil companies will be discouraged to develop gas from the oil reserves that are located in Alaska because it will not be as profitable for these oil corporations to extract and sale gas developed as a byproduct of the oil extraction.
Discourages Gas Pipeline Construction 2. Oil Corporations claim that the enactment of this act will cause the gas pipeline to be further delayed.
SUPPORT
1. Oil corporations generate enormous amounts of profits from gas and oil. This act will cost them very little in the big picture of things and will force them to develop oil that they have been neglecting to develop due to the tax that this act will enact.
2. This act will jump start the gas pipeline because it will force the oil corporations to either develop or be taxed on gas that they are not developing.
Questions and Answers
There has been a lot of radio advertising, bumper stickers, and politicians in opposition to Ballot Measure 2. Where is all of this money and support coming from?
Answer: Oil corporations have been pouring millions of dollars into advertisements against this act. It is in the favor of the oil corporations and special interests groups, to stop this act from occurring. What's good for the corporations is not always good for Alaskans
