Unsourced categories

Please do not add a category to an article unless there is a cited statement in the article from a reliable source to support the category. It violates Wikipedia's policy of verifiability. In the case of the category "Psychedelic advocates and proponents", it also violates Wikipedia's policies on biographies of living people. Just because a musician has performed psychodelic music doesn't make that person a "psychedelic advocate and proponent", and it could be construed as defamatory. The country singer Kenny Rogers sang a psychedelic song with one of his old groups, The First Edition. He is hardly a "psychedelic advocate". Thank you. Ward3001 (talk) 23:16, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

I suggest you read WP:V, WP:RS, WP:BLP, and WP:CITE. I also suggest that you add a sourced, cited statement from a reliable source to confirm a category before adding the category. I suggest you follow Wikipedia's policies. I suggest that you be aware that "the threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiablity, not truth". I suggest that you realize that this is an encylcopedia, not a blog, not your personal website, and not a place where someone can post anything he pleases because he read something somewhere. Musical genres

I clean up a lot of genre disagreements. I should probably not assume that all genre changes belong in the "bad Wikipedian" catagory. I don't doubt that your additions were good faith edits. and I apologise for the "troll" title that I bestowed upon you. Purpose behind image?

Hey Sir Richardson. I can't seem to figure out what purpose this image is supposed to serve. All it looks like you have done is darken the image, and made the resolution much poorer. WP:MOSFLAG

Hi Sir Richardson,

Although I'm sure you've done it in good faith,, but would it be possible for you to remove/revert some of the flag icons you've been adding to various "people" articles? They are the flags of countries and states rather than ethnic groups and nationalities. This is also covered our policy at WP:MOSFLAG. As an example, British Chinese shouldn't have the Union and Chinese state flags as both the British and Chinese peoples could reject British and Chinese identity, and instead identify as English-Uyghur. --Jza84 |  Talk  22:15, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Hitchens

I see you edit Hitchens alot (note:you can preview post before sending it hence no need for multiple posts).. as regards his nationality, he specifically identifies himself as English as stated in interviews, while he carries dual British/American citizenship. Hitchens media index

I just noticed this edit of yours to the Christopher Hitchens article where you mentioned his bloggingheads appearance (where, by the way, you still need to fix the citation so it shows up as more than an unlabeled external link in the references section). Besides not knowing about the bloggingheads video (which, it turns out, is also on YouTube where it should have been easy to find), I just today discovered the video of a 2004 debate of his with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach (long predating their 2008 debate at the 92nd St. Y), and here I thought I had tracked down all his atheism debates. Do you know of any index of material to help track all of his audio and video material? -- ToE^T 14:09, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

I've no problem with what is going on with the article, and I have made a couple of edits there and will do so again in the future, but I was really trying above to ask one specific question. George Orwell

I appreciate that you are acting in good faith, but it is best if featured articles are nominated by people who have worked closely on them. In this way, they can give reasoned replies to reviewers and be familiar enough with the sources to act on suggested improvements. Someone who has not worked on the article can not provide this input, so the nomination may continue until opposition to it becomes so overwhelming that the article is failed; this takes away time from reviewers. While the George Orwell article is of reasonable quality, it is not yet of featured quality, and principal contributors must be consulted before a nomination, as required in the featured article candidate instructions. The French American article

Excluding Jim Carrey from that list seems very POV, since the article clearly states that French Canadians who identifies as Americans is French Americans. I am glad to help in any way I can. I am currently reading Ted Morgan's biography, which will provide useful information. Naked Scientology/Ali's Smile is a book I know little about, so I can't provide much help there, unfortunately. Cities of the Red Night

Good call on that rewrite. As minor as it was, it clarifies things much better. I am thinking of removing the designation of Burroughs as a Beat writer from the lede. By the time he wrote his final trilogy, he was well past the Beat association, and his style had developed in numerous ways. By that point, as well, he was as much associated with Punk, and other underground scenes, as he was with the Beats. I found an earlier lede to put in the GW article. Rjensen is reluctant to the reduce the lede. Here is the earlier verson:

George Washington (February 22, 1732 [O.S. February 11, 1731]– December 14, 1799) served as the first President of the United States from 1789 to 1797, and as the commander of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1783. His role in the revolution and subsequent independence and formation of the United States was significant, and he is seen by Americans as the "Father of Our Country".

The Continental Congress appointed Washington commander-in-chief of the American revolutionary forces in 1775. The following year, the British were ousted and left Boston, lost New York City, and were defeated in Trenton, New Jersey by Washington's surprise crossing of the Delaware River. Because of his strategy, Revolutionary forces captured the two main British combat armies at Saratoga and Yorktown. Negotiating with Congress, the colonial states, and French allies, he held together a tenuous army and a fragile nation amid the threats of disintegration and failure. Following the end of the war in 1783, King George III asked what Washington would do next and was told of rumors that he would return to his farm, prompting the King to state, "if he does that, he will be the greatest man in the world." Washington did return to private life and retired to his plantation at Mount Vernon.

Washington presided over the Philadelphia Convention that drafted the United States Constitution in 1787 because of general dissatisfaction with the Articles of Confederation. Washington became President of the United States in 1789 and established many of the customs and usages of the new government's executive department. He sought to create a nation capable of sustaining peace with their neighboring countries. His unilateral Proclamation of Neutrality of 1793 provided a basis for avoiding any involvement in foreign conflicts. He supported plans to build a strong central government by paying off the national debt, implementing an effective tax system, and creating a national bank. Washington avoided war and maintained a decade of peace with Britain upon signing the Jay Treaty in 1795, despite intense opposition from the Jeffersonians. Although never officially joining the Federalist Party, he supported its programs. Washington's farewell address was a primer on republican virtue and a stern warning against partisanship, sectionalism, and involvement in foreign wars. He was awarded the first Congressional Gold Medal with the Thanks of Congress in 1776.

Washington died in 1799 mainly due to treatment for his pnuemonia, which included calomel and bloodletting, resulting in a combination of shock from the loss of five pints of blood, as well as asphyxia and dehydration. Henry "Light-Horse Harry" Lee, delivering the funeral oration, declared Washington "first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen". Historical scholars consistently rank him as one of the greatest United States presidents.

Hi, About the YouTube video capture "Frank Zappa Playing Music on a Bicycle 1963" at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9P2V0_p6vE that had been entered by 71.65.236.50 into the infobox on the Frank Zappa page on Nov 7, 2010 - Very late last night, I saw that the entry had been made by the non-registered user. I did not have time to evaluate where it should be located on the page. My edit was intended to clean the entry up so that it would look presentable to viewers. The double brackets around "bicycle" were showing. My annotation, "minor cleanup of bicycle addition to instruments just so that reference would show properly - further attention needed" described my opinion that further attention is needed concerning the video clip. I believe that the clip belongs somewhere on the page (not where it was placed), because what Frank Zappa, at the age of 22, was saying, on a popular national TV show, about creativity is very significant. Both Frank Zappa's delivery of the message, and Steve Allen's reaction to what Frank Zappa was saying and doing are significant. Steve Allen was an accomplished musician in his own right, and his reaction, in my view, shows how something that is not within the norm can be difficult to accept by the general population. Steve Allen also displayed in his acknowledgement at the end of the clip that he understood what Frank Zappa was demonstrating. Could this video clip be seriously considered for inclusion on the Frank Zappa page, hopefully in a location that has context as opposed to being included merely as an external reference? Reference #34 (as of 11/7/10) refers to the show. Could this clip be inserted as an external video link in the Early 1960s: Studio Z section on the Frank Zappa page?
