I've been adding references to the external links section where this guideline jives with WP:EL. However, I do not believe the following bullets under "Inappropriate" external links can be traced to that guideline and so I would like to open discussion on their removal. Keep in mind WP:Local consensus when considering why these were added. I will add some specific-to-bullet rationale and thoughts for these.
Commercial video game "news, reviews and walkthrough" sites edit
The video game's page at 1UP.com, GameSpot, IGN, GameSpy, GameFAQs or any other commercial video game news, reviews or walkthrough sites - Such links can be seen as promotion of the associated commercial sites.
Fan-based sites edit
Fan-based sites, including those that may extend from the commercial sites listed above (for example, PlanetQuake)
Homebrews edit
Links to modern remakes (homebrew clones) - these are generally included for self-promotion and may infringe on copyrighted works
