Bandung Spirit Program

Bandung Spirit Program (BSP) is a biennial program held by the Directorate of Intra-Regional Cooperation for Asia, Pacific, and Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (MoFA). It has been held three times in Indonesia since 2007. The idea of BSP was inspired by the Spirit of Bandung. Therefore, it is also an effort to eternalize the ideals of Bandung Spirit.

Bandung Spirit

Bandung Spirit emanated at the Bandung Conference, on 18-24 April 1955 in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The Bandung Conference was the first meeting in the world which was succesfully attended by 29 country representatives from Asia and Africa.
The purpose of the conference was to promote the highest aspirations of the peoples of Asia and Africa: economic and cultural cooperation, human rights and national self-determination, and promotion of international peace. The Bandung Conference has been acknowledged as an initial global action againts colonialism and neo-colonialism.[1]

Bandung Spirit Program with Pacific Countries

BSP is destined for participants from the Pacific countries. It was firstly introduced in 2007 under the theme of climate change and food security. In 2009, BSP was held under the theme of democracy.

The latest BSP was held on 15-22 March 2011 in Manado, Bandung, and Jakarta. It's official name was "Bandung Spirit Program with Pacific Countries 2011 on Disaster Reliefe." Each theme was raised based on regional common agenda among Indonesia and Pacific Countries.

BSP 2011 was participated by 10 participants from 8 countries, namely: Cook Islands, Fiji (3 participants), Nauru, Palau,Papua New Guinea, Samoa, and Vanuatu.

Participants attended ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Disaster Relief Exercise as observers in Manado, on 15-16 March 2011. Participants then visited the Museum of Asian-African Conference and West Java Regional Board for Disaster Management, both are located in Bandung, on 18-19 March 2011.

In Jakarta, participants met with Minister for Foreign Affairs [2] [3] and Minister for Transport of Indonesia, and Indonesia Fisheries Federation [4] . They also joined workshop at National Board for Disaster Management and Nusantara Earth Observation Network (NEOnet), on 21-22 March 2011 .
