Vera Michaelova Georgieva
Vera Michaelova Georgieva was born in the Bulgarian city of Breznik on March 25, 1932. For forty years she has been collecting information about Breznik’s and Graovo-region history. She has published her information in three books. The title of the first book, “Iz minaloto na Breznishkii͡a︡ kraĭ,” can roughly be translated to, “From Breznik’s Past.” It discusses Breznik’s traditional city fair “Vidovden,” its folk-style medicinal remedies, and contains mid-century road maps. Funny and unforgettable characters and their stories from the city are also featured.
The significance of Georgieva’s books is that she has incorporated Breznik’s history in all of them in an effort to make sure that it will not be forgotten. The books can be read for leisure purposes or at the disposal of social scientists.
