Fannie Simon grew up in Westchester and on the Upper West Side. She had the privilege to have live-in servants and enjoyed horseback-riding with her brother, Alexander, in Central Park. In 1930, Simon moved to the Murray Hill section of Manhattan where she lived there for the next fifty years. Simon was active in several membership such as New York City Republican Club, the Smith College Alumnae Association, the Church of the Incarnation and also in the Murray Hill Committee, her neighborhood association. Simon's greatest passion was to travel around the world which she started when she was young. She travelled a lot with her family. She remarked to a friend that she had travelled to over 150 countries. Her last trip was to Iceland. She died when she was eighty-nine in a traffic accident in New York City on October 20, 1980.

and graduated in 1924. Two years later, she started to work at her alma mater in advertising, magazine industry then as librarian. In 1932 Simon joined the Special Libraries Association and remained active until her death. Simon was also an avid supporter of the Metropolitan Opera Guild and the New York Philharmonic Society. At the time of her death, she was working as the coordinator of a program of conversational English for the English-Speaking Union.

Writing edit

Besides published few travel articles, Simon had produced her unpublished full-length manuscript titled "Following Fannie in a Changing World," which documented her around the world trip with her college classmate, Margaret Hodges in 1928 - 1929. It includes a small amount of correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, biographical material and her detailed resume. Her Simon Fannie Manuscript of Following Fannie in a Changing World is now a part of Sophia Smith Collection of Women's History Repository.

Feedback from Colleen edit

Hi Ira,

I'm leaving my feedback here instead of Moodle - I hope it makes it easier to read and use! You've done really well here on the section titles. Do note that 'real' Wikipedia pages will always start with a title (that's an option under the 'paragraph' headings menu). I like how you followed the biography manual of style to start the page with a synopsis of Fannie's life, but be sure to include a citation when necessary. Also, careful when you insert links to other Wikipedia articles (it looks like you inserted the link to 'clothier' but deleted the word clothier in text). I don't see any citations in this writeup, which is a really important part of Wikipedia editing. For this assignment, you don't have to actually do the research, but adding citations (either back to the finding aid or to web resources one could theoretically use) in the test environment is an important part of the exercise.

I've bolded the text below in the rubric to show your score.

Feel free to delete my feedback from your sandbox when you're done with it.

Thank you, Ira!
